Registration as Electors and the Electoral Register

Eligibility for Registration as Electors

An organization is eligible for registration if it meets the following requirements:-

  1. (a) Throughout the 2 years immediately before the end of the specified application period,
    1. (i) it has been a company defined by section 2(1) of the Companies Ordinance (Chapter 622), or a society or a branch of a society registered, or exempted from registration, under section 5A of the Societies Ordinance (Chapter 151); and
    2. (ii) it has been carrying on activities to safeguard or represent the interests of patients.
  2. (b) Its principal objective is to safeguard or represent the interests of patients.
  3. (c) It is recognized by a reference authority (i.e. the Hospital Authority, the Social Welfare Department or The Hong Kong Society For Rehabilitation) as an organization that safeguards or represents the interests of patients

The period of application for registration as electors to be included in the electoral register ended on 22 April 2021. Organizations whose applications have been approved by the Permanent Secretary have been entered into the electoral register. Such organizations are eligible to subscribe nomination of candidates and cast votes to elect lay members of the Medical Council at election(s) held during the period when the electoral register is in force
